neil davies: tring to open mine up from 136 to 174 put can't find the program to do it help plz

Michael Martinsen: Here is a guide to make the programming cable work with windows 8.1 (and probably window 7 and 10 as well).
I made it because I struggled to find out how and I thought others maybe had the same problem.

I am using the programming cable named Megavolt, but may work with other cables as well as long as they have the same prolific chip.
First you must plug in the cable, windows will automatic install a driver. You need an older driver to make this work, so follow the guide on this page: http://www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Drivers.php

After you have installed the older driver then you must download and install the tyt-800 software. I do not find this software on the tyt888.com site any longer, but I found the software here: http://www.pu5ssr.net/TYT/Software/TYT-800-and-TYT-9A.rar

After you install it and run it for the first time you will probably need to change the language to english.
To get english language in the tyt-800 program choose ??(S)-->????(L)
Choose the top ?? in the dropdownlist and press ??(O) button

Then you have to go to Setup and Communication port and change to correct port. COM3 seems to be the default one.

You should now be able to read and write to the tyt-800.

As a side note, it seems like windows like to install the newest driver each time you plug out and in the programming cable, so you have to go to device manager and choose the older driver each time.

Phil Lowe: This is the best radio I have ever had!! It's been dropped out of 2 story high windows , dropped in rivers everything and it still works. !!! The noise quality is great , love the fm radio. It would be nice to see an updated version. I Would recommend to anyone

409shop409: please use window xp, don't use windon 7 or vista

Michael Martinsen: Yes. I got it to work on an old xp computer. Wont work on my windows 7 computers.

409shop409: have you install the USB driver???

Michael Martinsen: I got it to work on a win xp computer. I tried 3 computers with win7 before that.

Michael Martinsen: I tried a new computer and got a bit further. I have installed the usb cable to work on usb 2 (only com port that is availeble from 1-4 on this computer. When I choose read from radio I get queston "Read data from radio. Do you wish to continue?" I press OK and get error "Run-time error '8020': Error reading comm device"

409shop409: can you cap the picture for the install problem???

Michael Martinsen: I use the usb one. It install the com port fine. But no connection to radio.

409shop409: which prog. cable did you use???

Michael Martinsen: Do you have to set the radio in a certain mode to program it? Im having problem getting comunication between radio and computer. Have tried several computers.

409shop409: thanks
